Selection Process
The following criteria are generally considered in selecting campers. These can be modified if the specialty medical team concurs and approval is given by the camp medical director.
- Attempts are made to obtain campers from all areas in our service region
- Campers impacted more severely by their disease are considered to be a “higher priority.” However, campers must be medically able and safe to attend camp
- We serve children between the developmental and chronological ages of 7-15
- Campers must be able to function within a group camp setting, i.e., no adverse behavioral dynamics
- We will attempt to give all campers at least two consecutive summer camp sessions, and priority is given to new and first return campers
- Priority is given to campers who are actively receiving medical treatment or care
- Significant psychosocial issues affecting a child’s life are considered in providing space for the camper
- Gender may be a factor in camper selection in that we aim to have an approximate 50-50 male to female ratio
