Testimonials: Meet David
"When I had cancer I was either in the hospital or at home, and one of my parents was with me constantly. I could do very little without being reminded that I had cancer and feeling "abnormal". I was very different from everyone else. Being around other kids like me at Camp made me feel "normal". I was around kids who were in the same situation that I was.
At Camp, I made a friend, Chris. It was a real pleasure knowing him in the time we had together. He and I did many activities together. He was one of the bravest people I ever met, and he taught me how to be brave. Although he knew that there was the possibility he could die, he always had a beautiful sense of humor and kept me laughing. We laughed a lot.
I think about him every time I go to Camp, but not with sorrow. Instead, I remember him with the joy and peace he taught and gave me. Without a place that lets sick kids come to Camp I still would have had cancer, but I would not have made a lasting friend named Chris."
Note: David attended the same Camp in Florida that inspired Betty Turner Campbell to build The Center for Courageous Kids.
