The Center for Courageous Kids® is a world-class medical camp designed specifically for the child living with medical challenges who could not attend a traditional camp. A 501(c)(3) not for profit, we are dedicated to uplifting children living with chronic or life-threatening illnesses. Our campus includes our Medical Center, Equestrian Center, Bowling Alley, Indoor Swimming Complex, Gymnasium and Climbing Wall, Lodges, Dining Hall and Theater....and so much MORE. But it's the amazing children and their wonderful families who fill these 168 acres with the sounds of laughter, singing and silliness.
Designed for the medically fragile child and his/her family members, they attend this magnificent state of the art facility at no cost to them. We are open ALL YEAR LONG. Yes, operating year round, we offer 2 distinct types of programs from 22 family weekend retreats where the entire family joins their child, to 9 separate weeks of illness specific summer camping sessions focused specifically on the ill child. For many of our children, this is their first time away from home except for hospital stays. Whether bowling or swimmimg, horseback riding or fishing, making new friends or singing 'round the campfire... yes, at The Center for Courageous Kids WE PRESCRIBE FUN!!!!
Located in Scottsville, KY we welcome children from ALL across the region and beyond (KY, TN, IN, OH, NC, PA, MD, AR, FL, and ... the list goes on and on!) Over 4,000 children and family members from 22 states and Canada have attended with nearly 60 separate and unique diagnoses. Additionally, financial support has been received from 1,502 donors from 39 states (and counting) and Canada. WOW!
As you can imagine, a year-round world class medical camp of this caliber is a very expensive endeavor, but NOT for the brave kids and families who attend our facility. How can we do this? Because of the generosity of our Founder, our staff, board of directors, health partners, the community, individuals and businesses with a heart for seriously ill children (just like YOU)...who lovingly and unselfishly support us. Without health partners and other outside entities helping defray the costs we could not offer our programs free to the children and families waiting to attend. Financial donations of every size, in-kind donations of every imaginable type, volunteers from college age to retirees... people from all across the country are joining us in creative and inspirational ways.
Our Founder
The Center for Courageous Kids® (formerly referred to as "Camp Courageous") is the dream of our Founder, Elizabeth Turner Campbell. Also a proud Founder of Camp Boggy Creek in Florida, a Paul Newman Hole in the Wall Camp, Ms. Betty was inspired to create a similar independent medical camp in her hometown of Scottsville, KY. Having lost a beloved son to cancer she understands in a very personal way what a powerful impact a pediatric illness can have on the entire family. She gives tirelessly of her time, energy, commitment and financial leadership to ensure the sustainability of The Center for Courageous Kids. Please join her and the army of volunteers, donors and behind the scenes angels who support The Center for Courageous Kids. Show your support by clicking DONATE NOW at the top of the page. No gift is too small.
Our 168 acre site is located 24 miles southeast of Bowling Green, KY, and just 65 miles northeast of Nashville, TN. Camp address: 1501 Burnley Road, Scottsville, KY. 42164 (270) 618-2900.
